WINGS taking on the leadership of the SDG Philanthropy Platform in 2020
We are very pleased to announce that WINGS will assume the co-leadership of the Sustainable Development Goals Philanthropy Platform (SDGPP) together with the United Nations Development Program – UNDP, from January 2020. We will take on the role from Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) who has been leading the platform over the past 5 years. It was supported by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Ford Foundation, Brach Family Charitable Foundation, and UN Foundation. Please find information about the first phase here.
From September to January 2020 WINGS is working on the transition with RPA. As part of this process, we recently co-organized with the SDGPP partners side events on the margins of the 74th UN General Assembly, in New York. We will soon be sharing some information about these events and our ideas for the future of the platform.
For now, we are pleased to share with you our Executive Director’s opening words from our event “Unlocking Philanthropy’s Potential” at the Ford Foundation, on September 25, from 3-5pm. He is making the case for multisector collaboration and draws the main lines of the future platform around 4 main components:
- Expand the scope of the field and include all forms of philanthropy, from individual giving to impact investing
- Help turn Philanthropy Support Organizations into accelerators for SDG adoption, concrete collaboration and dissemination of solutions
- Advocate for the development of philanthropy and an enabling environment for the field
- Build the collective voice of the sector on specific SDG related issues, such as climate and gender
WINGS calls for the network’s inputs to help shape the new phase of this important global initiative.
